Another Prize!

Congratulations to Lynne Knight (Again, 2009) for being awarded 2nd Prize in the 2009 New England Shakespeare Festival Sonnet Contest. The sonnet will be published in early summer of 2010 in the Raintree Review, as well as read and recorded by a Shakespearan actor. We will post a link when that goes up on the New England Shakespeare Festival website.

Change in Submission Deadline

Our Newest Prize Winners

Lynne Knight (Again, 2009) has won the Rattle Poetry Prize for 2009. Her winning poem, "To the Young Man Who Cried Out 'What Were You Thinking' When I Backed into His Car" will appear in Rattle #32, available in December. For more information, please see

Jeanne Wagner, whose book will be published by Sixteen Rivers Press in 2011, has won Second Prize in the 2009 Connecticut River Review Contest for her poem, "Nome." The poem was published in the most recent issue of the Connecticut River Review.

IPPY Award

Dan Bellm's book Practice has won a Bronze Medal in Poetry as part of the 2009 Independent Publisher (IPPY) Book Awards. Sixteen Rivers Press congratulates Dan on this recognition.

A Great Summer

This has been a great summer for Sixteen Rivers authors.

Carolyn Miller had two poems selected for the Writer's Almanac on Public Radio International, one read on July 5 and one on July 6. Both poems are from her new book, Light, Moving, published earlier this year.

Margaret Kaufman's poem "Photo, Brownie Troop, St. Louis, 1949" was chosen by Ted Kooser to appear the week of July 13 on American Life in Poetry. It will also appear in her collection, Inheritance, to be published by Sixteen Rivers in 2010.

We are also pleased to announce that Margaret Kaufman (Snake at the Wrist, 2002) has won second prize in the Katherine Ann Porter Prize for Fiction from the 2009 Nimrod Literary Awards for her short story, “Life Saving Lessons.”

California Book Award Winner


Sixteen Rivers is proud to announce that Dan Bellm's book Practice has won the 2009 Silver Medal in Poetry as part of the California Book Awards given by the Commonwealth Club of California. An award ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 4 at 6:00pm at the Commonwealth Club, 595 Market Street, San Francisco.
